The Academic Personnel team assists faculty with merits and promotions, leaves of absence, and sabbaticals. We are also available to assist with Academic Senate and Federation recruitment procedures, course scheduling and instructional needs budget and summer sessions coordination. Our team assist with these titles: Lecturers, Jr. Specialists, Project Scientists, Researchers, Visiting Scholars, and without salary appointments. We also work with SISS to help obtain the appropriate visa for candidates that may require one. For more information and resources, please see the links below.

If you would like to hire someone into a federation title (i.e. specialist, professional researcher, or project scientist) please note the recruitment process can take 2-3 months. Appointments must be for at least 1 year initially. The appointment process can take about 2-3 months as well. These titles must go through the merit and promotion process once hired.

- Junior Specialists

Please note that the recruitment process to hire junior specialists takes about 2 months. Appointments must be for a minimum of 1 year. The total time someone can spend with the junior specialist title is 3 years. The Personnel team can send you a job ad template. The ad must be posted for at least 2 weeks.
- Leaves of Absence

Personal Leaves and Leaves for Professional Development: to attend professional meetings or for University business
Department Chairs may approve leaves if the leave of absence is for 7 calendar days or less. If the leave is more than 7 days, please submit a Professional Development Leave request through MIV:
Sabbaticals
Please discuss with your department Chair/Director to work out coverage for teaching prior to submitting your request to the Personnel team.
- Visiting Scholars

Please notify the Personnel team by email at least 60 days prior to the arrival of the Visiting Scholar so that the SISS Department has sufficient time to process the J-1 visa request. The Personnel team will be able to provide you with a template for the scholar invitation letter.
